Fusion Workshop // I’ve got a secret to tell

Destination Wedding Photographer, Film Wedding Photographer, Alabama Wedding Photographer

You guys. I have been on pins and needles absolutely dying to share this blog with you…and that says a lot, because you know how I feel about blogging. In February I had the opportunity to fly out to Houston and stay with my sweet friend Michelle (of Michelle Able Photography) while I attended the very first Fusion Workshop–hosted by the sweet, beautiful, and insanely talented Dana Fernandez and Jenna McElroy. The entire purpose of the workshop is to help photographers learn more about film photography, and to give them the confidence and know-how to incorporate it into their business. I’ve been playing with film for a couple of months now, and it was so wonderful to be able to sit down with these ladies and pick their brains for a bit.

Now about that secret…the cat may be out of the bag already, but in case you didn’t know–I am head-over-heels in love with film. Like, I could talk about it all day. I’ve slowly but surely been incorporating it into my weddings and engagement sessions, and I can’t wait for the day where I feel confident enough to call myself a “film photographer”. If my husband were to read this (which, I’m 99% sure he won’t–so I feel totally comfortable saying this), he would give me a nice long lecture about confidence and how I don’t give myself enough credit. But since he’s not here to say it, I’ll be real with you guys. Film is beautiful, but it is sometimes terrifying. So I’m inching my way into this beautiful area of photography, and I can’t wait to share more with you guys. In the meantime, grab a cup of coffee and take a peek at this gorgeous styled shoot I was able to photograph while at the Fusion Workshop (you guessed it–almost entirely in film)!

Oh my goodness. You guys.

Willa Turns One!

Willa is one! I can’t believe it! You may not recognize this sweet little face, but she was a very important guest at one of my all-time favorite weddings (if you need to refresh your memory, you can see Alix and George’s beautiful wedding here). I also shot her beautiful momma’s maternity pictures, as well as Willa’s newborn pictures. So I guess you could say we are pals. Yesterday Alix and George’s home was standing-room only as all of Willa’s family, friends, and admirers showed up to show this sweet girl just how much she is loved <3

Alaska

Holy moly. How do you even begin a blog about Alaska?!

I was only there for a short time, but I fell in love with it instantly. Had I used by God-given brain and gotten a 4wd vehicle instead of the “economy” car at the rental place, I probably would’ve explored a little more…which could’ve been a great and terrible thing all at once. I mostly kept to Anchorage and the Turnagain Arm, but I did venture out to the Wildlife Conservation Center and Alyeska Ski Resort to ride the tram up to the top.

You guys. Alaska is incredible. So beautiful. So many things that I don’t even have words for.

I don’t have the film scans back, but I thought I could go ahead and share these with y’all.

If you ever have a chance to go to Alaska…do it. Don’t think about it. Just do it. You’ll thank me later;)

Island Time

Whoa. It’s been a long time since I’ve blogged…anything–let alone anything personal. Since the last time I blogged, I have passed all of my board exams (wahoo!), completed all of my interviews, went on a vacation (or maybe a couple of them), and have shot at least 5 weddings. So I guess we have a lot of catching up to do.

Let’s start with our little cruise. We took a lovely 7 day cruise to the eastern caribbean at the beginning of November, and it was just what I needed to recharge my batteries to get ready for the wedding madness that started in November and went into December. Of course, nothing went as planned most of our shore excursion groups cancelled on us because the person who gave the tour either changed their mind (translation: didn’t have enough people sign up to make it seem like worth their while, and therefore ok to ruin our carefully thought-out plans at the last minute) or had the chikungunya virus (or, as Blake and I prefer to call it, “the chicken-gumdrop virus”). Anywho, it all worked out and we had a lovely time. I can officially cross “swim with a shark” off of my bucket list. Not that it was there to begin with, or that I ever thought swimming with sharks sounded like fun…but I did it anyway. Here’s a quick little film + digital recap of our latest vacation.

Selfie time! We bought a handy little tripod/stick to use while snuba diving, so we thought we would test it out. It took us a minute (or two) to realize that the go pro had been taking pictures the entire time… But I kind of love the surprise shots we got;)

And then there was that day “at sea” where it rained pretty much the entire time…but then there was this:

I forgot to mention the giant sting rays. We also got to swim with the biggest sting rays I’ve ever seen/hope to ever see in my life. They were super sweet, but I was absolutely terrified of them. One day I’ll figure out how to edit all of these videos to make them small enough to upload into a blog post…because every time Blake started to do something (like chase the sharks I mentioned earlier), I hit the video button and not the picture button. Give me a Mark ii and I’m good to go…but hand me a go pro/simple underwater camera and I have no clue what I’m doing.
